this brand new site for bits and bytes about blogging, online publishing, journalism and the impact of the Internet on publishing in several niche areas.
Some of the material in this blog has appeared on my literature blog, You Cried for Night. It was getting rather crowded at that site and I was concerned I might start to confuse my audience if I wandered off into tech and media issues whilst sampling book reviews and online literature resources.
It’s entirely possible that the audience here could also be confused. To give you a taste of what I’ve done so far, see the Earlier Writings page (in progress).
Some of this work will hopefully feed into some blogging workshops, and some freelance writing for print sources whose audiences are still asking questions about what blogging is and where it is heading. We forget sometimes when we’ve mastered RSS that not everybody has spent their spare time at the screen – some people just want a summary, they don’t need to DO THIS TOO. If I can spread the word around some print sources that we are not the Pajama Press, and get paid for it, I’d like to have a go at that.
Also I think I’m just feeling a bit tidy at present. I went through my Bloglines subs the other day and found half a dozen sites I don’t link to at CFN because I have no room – if both sites eventually become link lists, it will not be the end of the world, though the Typepad one could be a bit of an expensive research tool in time. Call it the librarian’s instinct to develop a guide to resources that might come in handy sometime – and leave it at that.
Naturally I’m grateful to James Farmer, too, for this opportunity to enjoy Wordpress free of the nagging concerns of installation, server doo-dads and expense. This is a breeze compared to using Blogger, no? Bravo Edublogs.org!

Hey, you’re more than welcome! Csn’t wait to see how things develop… would you like to be featured sometime down the line?
Aah, give it time, James, Christmas is getting in my face. I do like these tools though.
