This blog does tend to be the spot where the tech media stuff is offloaded at present. Not a good way to blog. Everyone will tell you that, wherever you go. I hope I’m not confusing my readers too much – I’ve been busy writing about blogging for uni, and also for The Australian, and trying to save good things religiously in del.icio.us and FURL as well. I attended a terrific couple of websearching seminars in October which were supposed to make me a bit more efficient at all this. I’ve come to the conclusion that discipline is really the answer, not just tools.
I guess I am turning corners at present, too, developing contacts in the writing world and finishing the library qualification at the same time – several good things have come my way all at once and there are definitely a few bees in the bonnet.
At present I’m hunting for some bits and pieces on blogging for writers’ centres on the sniff of a promise I made while researching an article for the Australian Literary Review. While doing so I noted with great pleasure that Christy Dena, cross-media writer and consultant, is presenting to the Australian Writers’ Guild on same later this month.
I had the good fortune to attend Writing the Story of the Future on Monday at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) here in Docklands, Melbourne, where Christy was co-convenor and, among other things, gave an amusing archaeologist’s perspective ‘from the future’ on how writing was perceived in 2006. What she doesn’t know about blogging, writing and digital narrative (and a whole host of other things besides) simply isn’t worth knowing. So, lucky, lucky writers.
Some links of interest I’ve found recently include:
A wonderful group and forum, for Librarians Who Library Thing.
A gorgeous new VR blog is being unveiled at Librariesinteractinfo – VLINT, here. Records the adventures of Australian library folk in Second Life, y’all. Some enterprising people, Constance among them, are having a library end of year bash in Second Life too. December 13, I think. Follow the prompts here.
Finally, notification of the Library Uncon being run for public librarians in March 2007 at Thomastown library ( a link to the Uncon blog is going into the sidebar here). An exciting new venture, which, as the comments to this post suggest, should unearth the Web 2.0 library junkies in Victoria pretty quickly.

Thanks for the plug, Genevieve! Will we see you there on the 13th?
Oh and by the way, I have enjoyed seeing your name in the Australian lit sup and saying “I know her!” And then, when I’m asked how I know you, I enjoy answering “She’s a blogger!” (Yes, I know, simple pleasures…)
Hi Con, I am aiming to be a SL visitor by then, should be lots of fun.
Ahh,the thrills of publishing – I get goosebumps when the first Wednesdays come around. The one next week is the last one for a while though. Might get something else in next year, we’ll see.
Hello genevieve! Great to catch up with you in Melbourne and thankyou for your kinds words. I didn’t know about the Australian Libraries project in SL! I’ll check it out.
Hi Christy – I really enjoyed the WTSOTF seminar, and was sorry I had to leave early. Got a piece to Screen Hub about it though.
I’m just glad I read your blog and Anya’s often enough to know what Second Life is
